The Ford F550 is in Ford’s super duty line of commercial trucks and is quite versatile. In fact, most people probably haven’t even noticed the F-550 even though they see it all the time. The F550 has been fitted for everything from trailer hauling, to dump trucks, to boom trucks, to armored vehicles used by banks and SWAT teams. Hopefully the SWAT truck is not one you see too often, unless you happen to be on the SWAT team.
The cost to purchase a new one of these versatile commercial trucks is around $55,000 base price. Of course, the base price is rarely the actual price so expect to pay more like $65,000 or more. If you want some the functionality like the dump truck or boom truck, the cost can be much more. Luckily it’s not too hard to find a used Ford f550 for sale.
The above 2009 F550 western hauler was recently for sale online for $39,000. A bit easier to swallow than the $60,000 or more that it would to buy the thing new. With a 6.7 V-8 Diesel engine this truck was built to haul some serious trailers. The horse trailers that you see and occasionally smell going down the road come to mind. With the cheese hole grates in the side of some of the animal trailers I always wondered what happened when the horse or cow had to go to the bathroom. And then a few backs I saw a video of a poor motorcyclist stopped next to one of these trailers that found out exactly what happens. That’s what you call a ride to remember.
This Ford F550 bucket truck is often seen by the side of the road lifting some brave up in a bucket to fix power lines. Oddly enough this is my little brothers dream job. I’m pretty sure he has never worked with anything electrical in his life but to each their own. But this truck proves my earlier point. People see these on the side of the road all of the time but no one stops to think what model of truck it is.
The F-550 dump truck isn’t as common as the bucket truck but they can be occasionally spotted around town. They are meant for more light duty hauling than some of the bigger dump trucks, but they are also less expensive, making them a good option for a small business that needs to haul trash or earth.
I saved the best for last. This SWAT vehicle is built on a Ford F550 chassis and means business. Sadly this isn’t a vehicle that anyone can just go out and buy and I have no idea how much they cost. Just imagine how fun it would be if you could buy one for personal use. Every parent in the neighborhood would think you were crazy and every kid in the neighborhood would think you were the coolest guy on the block. I imagine with the weight of the armor this truck gets about 8 miles per gallon but the environment be damned! Bullets can’t harm you so how could global warming possibly effect you?
